Arthur Ravenel, Jr. is a state senator for district 34. He is also a land developer, owner of the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Company. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1950 with a B.S. degree after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-1946.

The Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge was named after him in honor of his efforts to find funding for the bridge's construction.
