Calhoun Street

Calhoun Street is a main east-west road that runs across the width of the Charleston Peninsula. On the west side, Calhoun street runs into the James Island Connector and ends at Liberty Square/Aquarium Wharf on the east side of the peninsula.

History

Calhoun Street is named after John C. Calhoun. The east part of Calhoun Street was originally called Boundary Street (the north boundary of the city). The west part was originally called Manigault Street, after Peter Manigault (speaker of the House). The entire street was renamed to Calhoun Street in 1849.
