Charles Towne Landing is a historic site located in West Ashley off Old Towne Road/Highway 171. It is the site of the first permanent settlement in the Carolinas, established in 1670. The park re-opened in August 2006 after undergoing an extensive renovation. The park is also an active archaeological site and offers internship and volunteer opportunities for the archaeologically inclined.
