History
The Charleston City Paper began as a project by a College of Charleston newpaper editor, Mongo Sean Nicholl. He published a "weekly" paper, The Upwith Herald, once or twice a month. After taking a strong interest in moving to San Francisco, Mongo sold the paper in 1994. It was renamed Upwith, moved into an official office at the corner of John and King streets, and made a dependable weekly deadline. The paper was sold once again in 1997. It moved to further north down King Street and was renamed The City paper.
