Daniel Island is a relatively newly developed area of Charleston, SC. The Island is located between Downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Daniel Island has become one of the hot new areas of Charleston, with much development on the available land. This development includes homes and apartments, Blackbaud Stadium, Family Circle Magazine Stadium, and Bishop England High School (which used to be located in Downtown Charleston).
Originally settled by the Etiwan Indian tribe, Daniel Island was first settled by English settlers around 1670, along with the rest of Charleston. Harry Frank Guggenheim (of museum fame) owned the entire island during the middle part of the 20th century. After his death, the City of Charleston annexed the island and the current round of development started in 1995.
The island is easily accessible via Interstate 526.
