Dock Street Theatre

The Dock Street Theatre is a historic performing arts center located at 135 Church Street (corner of Queen Street [whose original name was Dock Street] and Church Street) in Downtown Charleston. The theatre seats approximately 460 people.

The first building on this site opened in 1736 as a performance center. During the 1800's, the location housed the Planter's Hotel. The hotel underwent a major restoration in the 1930s to return it to functioning as a theatre.

The Charleston Stage group is in residence at the theater. The theater also hosts the City Gallery, an art gallery run by the City of Charleston and specializing in the works of Charleston-based artists. Several Spoleto events are staged at the theater, and the local band Jump, Little Children has annually held a multi-night concert at the theater around New Years.
