Going by the name of Blackbeard, Edward Teach was one of the world's most famous pirates. His career as a pirate was short but well documented. His most famous ship was the Queen Anne's Revenge. He had a headquarters in the Bahamas and the Carolinas.

Blockade of Charleston

In March of 1718 Blackbeard left the Caribbean for the Americas. He arrived at Charleston Harbor in May of 1718 with a fleet of several hundered men. He set up a blockade of the harbor and demanded only a chest of medicine. Several residents of Charleston were taken hostage during the blockade and all were released once the ransom was met. Not one shot was fired during Blackbeard's blockade. Shortly after his departure from Charleston the Queen Anne's Revenge was sunk off the coast of southern North Carolina.

His Death

On November 22nd 1918 Lieutenant Robert Maynard of the British Royal Navy and captain of HMS Pearl defeated the infamous pirate Blackbeard in battle. It was said to have taken 20 sword wounds and 5 gun shots to take down Blakcbeard. Lt. Maynard beheaded Blackbeard and attached his head to the bow of Maynard's ship the Adventure. The ship then sailed to Viriginia. This is considered to be the end of "The Golden Age of Piracy"
