Noticed some redirect in category pages. I don't think that's a good idea.--Mcg 17:22, 17 May 2006 (EDT)

Colloquialism

There needs to be some standard method for marking negative/vulgar colloqialisms as such. For example, West Ashtray is not considered a nice name for West Ashley. SNOB, however is considered a cute nickname for Slightly North of Broad. Kainaw 20:45, 4 July 2006 (EDT)

Generally speaking, vulgar colloqialisms are not permitted. I do not feel as though a negative colloqialism deserves special "marking" any more than a positive one. What exactly are you suggesting? -- http://www.charlestonwiki.org/images/swirl.jpg Brian Muller 06:40, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

I am thinking of a person who is new to Charleston (or coming to visit). They see that Mt. Plastic is a colloqialism for Mt. Pleasant. They don't realize that the name implies that people in Mt. Pleasant are overloaded with credit card debt and use it, offending someone, without intending to. So, I simply feel that an insult should be noted as an insult, not as a nickname. There is a difference. --Kainaw (talk) 09:49, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

Creative Commons Images

Any policy on using CC images with a more stringent license than Attribution? (There are 1400 "Charleston" pictures licensed under the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License license - which I think we would fall under except for the fact that we use a thumbnail sometimes, but its made by HTML resizing, not by actual re-sizing). --Turkett 02:46, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

I don't think there would be any problem. Feel free to use them. -- http://www.charlestonwiki.org/images/swirl.jpg Brian Muller 06:40, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

I don't think it would be a problem for that license either, but if you have a choice, even if the picture isn't quite as good, go for the more open license. I'll get a "banner" for that license tag added ASAP.--Mcg 09:35, 6 July 2006 (EDT)
Here is the template Template:Cc-by-nc-nd-2.5--Mcg 10:09, 6 July 2006 (EDT)
Great - thanks for the info and template. Gotcha on the "more open" license preference as well. --Turkett 10:34, 6 July 2006 (EDT)
