Larry Roy Campbell, Jr., more commonly known as Kwadjo Campbell, was a city councilman for the District 4 Charleston City Council for nearly eight years. His term ended in July of 2005 after his indictment.
Campbell and Joe Riley are known for being 'rivals' in the Charleston community.

Praise
Kwadjo was praised for his visible outspoken support for the East Side. He went to New York to speak at the Million Youth March. He also joined the Al Sharpton Presidential campaign. Throughout his career, he pushed for increased benefits for those living in the East Side.
Controversy
Possibly because he was so outspoken, the controversy during Kwadjo's time as councilman continually made it to the top of local news. Some saw his problems as proof he was a poor councilman. Others saw them as exagerrations used to keep a voice of the community from being heard.
Mayor Riley and Chief Greenberg
It was well known that Mayor Riley and Kwadjo Campbell were political foes. Kwadjo considered Chief Greenberg a strong ally with Riley and opposed Greenberg's plans to increase police presence in the East Side. This led to an incident where Kwadjo was accused of harboring drug dealers in his home and refusing to allow the police in without a warrant.
Developer Shakedown
In 2004, Kwadjo was accused of trying to delay a rezoning vote until a developer donated money to East Side neighborhood association, which Kwadjo headed.
Child Support
Kwadjo was repeatedly arrested for failure to pay child support. News reports never made it clear if the arrests were for one incident or multiple ones.
Drugs and Cars
Twice in one week, Kwadjo was arrested for misdemeanor vehicle and drug related issues. The charge of auto theft was dropped when the car's owner, who initially reported the vehicle stolen, stated that he forgot about loaning it to Kwadjo.
Campaign Finance Scandal
Kwadjo was indicted for campaign finance-related crimes. Upon public release of the indictment, Kwadjo announced he was leaving South Carolina to put all of his time and effort into his new family.
