Most people would consider Meeting Street to be the "Main Street" of Downtown Charleston, SC. Running parallel to another main Charleston thoroughfare, King Street, Meeting Street stretches from the coastline at the Battery all the way north out of Downtown.

Many important Charleston buildings are located on Meeting Street, including the Firehouse at the intersection of Wentworth Street, The Market at the intersection with Market Street, and the Four Corners of Law at the intersection with Broad Street.

The George Robertson House has the privilege of being addressed as 1 Meeting Street and is considered a Historic American Building. Two Meeting Street (only built in 1890) houses an inn, the Two Meeting Street Inn.

Transportation

The terminus of Interstate 26 is at its intersection with Meeting Street.

North of Highway 17, Meeting Street becomes U.S. Highway 52. Highways 78 (King Street) and 52 merge to become Rivers Avenue briefly and then diverge around the Goose Creek area. The northern terminus of U.S. Highway 52 is in Portal, North Dakota at the border with Canada.

Another street, called Meeting Street Road, parallels Rivers Avenue for a segment.
