Patriots Point is the name for a large area of land on the shore of the Cooper River in Mount Pleasant, SC. The area is visible from Downtown Charleston from any spots on the Cooper River side of the harbor. Development of the area is managed by the Patriots Point Development Authority.
Patriots Point is best known as the home of the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. This museum houses and preserves the USS Yorktown (CV-10) aircraft carrier, the USS Laffey (DD-724) destroyer, the USS Clamagore (SS-343) submarine, the USCGC Ingham (WHEC-35) cutter, and the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum. An annual 4th of July celebration, the 4th of July Blast, is held near the Maritime Museum.
In addition to the above museums, Patriots Point is home to the 459 slip Charleston Harbor Marina, the largest marina in the state of South Carolina. On Friday nights from April to July, the marina, along with Clear Channel Radio, hosts Party at the Point.
The Hilton Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina hotel and an 18 hole golf course, Patriots Point Links, are also located at Patriots Point.
The Patriots Point Athletic Complex houses the College of Charleston soccer, baseball, and softball, and tennis fields.
